Creating Inspiring Workshops and Courses in Transdisciplinarity: A Guide - Manual / Resource - Page 10
How did this guide come to be?
Our process
Framing a collaborative process (2021-2022)
To produce this guide, we brought together transdisciplinary thought leaders and experienced trainers from various regional centers
and programs worldwide and created a trusting and open environment for idea exchange, learning, and innovation. Some members of
our team had attended a pre-pandemic strategy meeting, while many were new to the group, and brought links to different networks.
We began our collaboration with a co-created strategy meeting, by developing key principles to guide our work. These informed all
subsequent meetings and work products:
•
Developing materials that are open-source and Creative Commons-licensed.
•
Ensuring all materials have clear authorship, attribution, and referencing.
•
Emphasizing a global perspective, with a strong balance between southern and northern perspectives, and incorporating a
flexible design with diverse geographic, cultural, and contextual representation.
•
Using transparent collaboration and decision-making mechanisms; and
•
Funding in a collaborative manner, with fair compensation for contributions to the collective.
Through a series of online meetings during the COVID pandemic, we established a work agreement, a decision-making process, and
clarified our goals. We agreed on three main objectives:
1. Integrate existing knowledge on the core concepts, competencies, definitions, and accepted stages of transdisciplinary research.
2. Develop and test a prototype workshop design in multiple regions.
3. Create a design guide for trainers to share widely, such as in universities, professional organizations, and networks like the
International TD Alliance.
