Creating Inspiring Workshops and Courses in Transdisciplinarity: A Guide - Manual / Resource - Page 12
Ideating: Developing a research brief and a framework for training (2022-2024)
Key aspects that shaped this guide were developed as follows:
Research brief:
•
•
•
The group submitted over 75 recommended articles
considered foundational to engaged, transdisciplinary
research.
Susi Moser wrote these two pieces.
Pamela Matson synthesized the literature, identifying
critical elements (phases, practices, strategies, and
concepts) that emerged across different geographies,
application contexts, and schools of thought. These core
ideas would inform our training needs across various
contexts. She organized the information in a way that
would be beneficial to the team, without prioritizing any
ideas.
Margaret Krebs and Susi Moser developed “Basics of training
design.”
We then held small group meetings to review the
Research Brief, identify any gaps, and discuss how it
could be organized for training purposes. From these
discussions, a final list of topics was developed that both
TD experts and trainers agreed would be essential to
know. Group members contributed additional contents
and revisions, while Susi Moser structured the draft using
our agreed framework of:
Training guide:
TD overview:
Key concepts and practices of transdisciplinary research
were documented by Tobias Buser, Hein Mallee, Susi Moser,
Devanathan Parthasarathy, Sarah Schweizer, Gabriela Wuelser,
and Lorrae Van Kerkhoff.
Re昀椀nement in team meetings:
We also conducted in-person meetings at five locations to focus
on critical issues for further refinement. These intensive work
sessions helped guide the writing process and workshop design.
Key participants included:
ƒ
•
Susi Moser and Margaret Krebs (Design)
Know: essential understanding.
ƒ
•
Susi Moser (Lead Facilitator)
Do: required competencies.
ƒ
•
Be: necessary aptitudes.
Attendees: Tobias Buser, Connie Nshemereirwe,(5
meetings) Lorrae Van Kerkhoff (4 meetings) Tolu Oni,
Sarah Schweizer, Coleen Vogel Gabriela Wuelser (2
meetings); Patty Balvanera, Pamela Matson, Hein Mallee,
Marcella Ohira, Christian Pohl.
Pro昀椀ciencies:
Lorrae Van Kerkhoff summarized proficiencies from an in-person
meeting in Pretoria (June 2022). These were reviewed and
refined with input from the group.
