Creating Inspiring Workshops and Courses in Transdisciplinarity: A Guide - Manual / Resource - Page 15
Our theory of change
To fulfill the promise of TD – especially on increasingly urgent sustainability challenges, broadly writ our Collaboratory of TD and training
experts aimed to support exactly those individuals who are well positioned to accelerate the uptake of TD. By providing to them what
they lack (knowledge in how to train others in TD) and helping them reach various audiences (administrators, funders, other researchers,
students, societal partners etc.) through tailored trainings, we believe this guide empowers TD researchers and practitioners to become
impactful change agents in their institutions and fields of study. By increasing the number of TD practitioners, advancing the practice
of TD, and building a receptive and supportive institutional and funding environment for TD, the field of transdisciplinarity will advance,
and more researchers, inside and outside of academia, will contribute more rapidly, effectively, and ethically to co-creating societal
responses to pressing social and environmental challenges.
To get there, not everyone will need the same depth and breadth of expertise in TD. Funders and administrator may simply need to
know what it is, and how it differs from other forms of research. Those participating in it will require deeper understanding of the
process, have skills in certain techniques, and be prepared to deal with likely challenges. Those leading TD projects will need yet deeper
understanding and skills to manage such collaborative processes effectively.
