Creating Inspiring Workshops and Courses in Transdisciplinarity: A Guide - Manual / Resource - Page 18
Participants
Who is the intended audience for the training?
The participants themselves have an influential role on the design of your training. It is essential to know your audience! If you
are designing the workshop for an organization, here are some questions to ask the organizer that might help you decide on the
most appropriate group size and hence on criteria to expand or limit participation:
Are participants free to self-select
to participate?
If possible, invite participants to sign up. Rather
than asking for nominations from high-ranking
administrators, it is preferable to let the right people
step forward themselves. Pursuing committed,
transdisciplinary work isn’t for everyone. It takes a
person who is motivated to go beyond their normal
service duties to adjust their current research practice
and learn new skills, because they believe it’s right and
necessary. Participants need to be willing to step out of
their comfort zones to contribute. The sign-up process
can be an application from which you then select
participants based on specified criteria, or by a lottery if
you have too many candidates.
