Follow-on steps
How will you keep your participants focused on what they learned?
Many trainings will be fully complete after they are delivered. But often, there are follow-on steps.
Are you responsible for clean-up?
Immediately after you adjourn, you may be responsible for rearranging rooms to their prior state, return equipment or
close up buildings. Depending on the situation, you may ask participants to quickly help rearrange tables and chairs, or you
may be glad to do it by yourself, with a co-trainer or the co-organizers of the training. In any case, it is good to clean up
after yourself to retain good relationships with the sponsors.
Do you still need to get feedback from participants?
If you decide to ask for an evaluation after the training event itself is complete, your first follow-on step will be to send the
evaluation survey to the participants – with a thank you note for participating. You may need to remind them several times
to complete the form.
Do you need to debrief with the sponsoring
organization?
The organization that invited you to deliver a training may wish to
discuss with you any aspect of how the training went. Depending on
the feedback received from participants and that discussion, they may
wish to plan follow-on trainings – with different or similar audiences,
and on the same or different topics.
