Transdisciplinary Research
Key concepts in theory and practice
About this section
The aim of this part of the Design Guide is to introduce brief
summaries of important concepts that underpin the theory and
practice of transdisciplinary research (TDR). Trainers will need
to understand and integrate these concepts into their activities,
either explicitly or implicitly. Each summary includes references
for further exploration of the concept and more information
about transdisciplinary research. These toolkits, journal articles,
and blog entries are excellent resources to support further
development. Our goal is not to replicate existing information or
toolkits, but to add a roadmap to them, as well as complement
them. First, we introduce fundamental concepts in the theory of
TDR and foundational stances for doing transdisciplinary work.
Following the concepts, we describe TDR practices.
